Our Story

Whispering Pines Christian School was founded in 1989 in Plymouth, California, by the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement NW US Field. The name was suggested by Sadie Irene Price, the school’s first administrator, who was inspired by the sound of the wind rustling through the pine trees. With financial support from the Balbach brothers and Vincent Cimera, the school started with 13 students, emphasizing Christian values, academics, health, and agriculture.

In its early years, the school faced challenges and even considered closing. In 1996, Wilson Barros, a Brazilian teacher and founder of the Isaac Newton School in Brazil, took over as administrator. He actively promoted the school among Russian and Ukrainian Protestant communities in Sacramento, leading to a significant increase in enrollment. By the early 2000s, the student body had grown to 65.

As enrollment grew, the need for a new facility became evident. In 2005, county officials required renovations, prompting the school to construct a new building. Financial difficulties arose, but a generous donation helped complete the project. During construction, classes were temporarily moved to churches in Sacramento and later to makeshift spaces on campus. In 2010, the new school building was officially opened.

To keep tuition affordable, Wilson started selling organic honey, which became an essential source of income for the school. The school also expanded its fleet of buses to transport students from the city to the rural campus.

During the COVID-19 pandemic (2020), the school quickly transitioned to online learning for three months. However, determined to return to in-person education, and with approval, the administration reopened earlier than most schools. This decision led to increased demand from parents seeking a stable learning environment for their children.

Today, Whispering Pines Christian School continues its mission of providing Christian education, fostering a faith-based learning environment. Plans for a high school are in prayer, with the hope of expanding the educational opportunities on the Moriah Heights property.
